I'd never have dared apply had it not been for Trevor Phillips, who headed it at the time. "Why don't you have a Christian on board?" I had asked him. "Why don't you apply?" he'd graciously replied. Alas, he was leaving the Commission when he said it. But when I saw his replacement – Baroness O'Neill – I wasn't upset about my failed application: the philosopher is, at least on paper, Christian. She'd look after the interests of the majority of Britons who feel they belong to that faith.

Onews,-- Uncle Kevin (Kev) Buzzacott, a Peacemaker from Arabunna Nation at Lake Eyre in South Australia and Jacob Rumbiak (exiled Foreign Affairs Minister from the Federated Republic of Occupied West Papua) have announced a new action of creative resistance against the apartheid of colonisation and destruction caused by multinational mining companies on Indigenous land in Australia and West Papua.

The Lake Eyre to West Papua Freedom Flotilla is a journey that hopes to reunite the history and peoples of a land that was once geographically and culturally connected.

"We were one people, we still are one people, we must uphold our cultural connection, the old land is calling us,” proclaimed Uncle Kev, Arabunna Elder.

Aceh Onews,-- Aceh’s provincial government has two weeks to stop using the flag of the now-disbanded separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM) army as a regional symbol, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Friday.

"I am still hopeful that in one or two weeks, this will be settled and there will no longer be any disturbances regarding the issue of the flag...” Yudhoyono said. "What is clear is that the ‘Merah-Putih’ [Indonesian flag] has to fly across the entire country.”

The flag, which features a crescent moon and a star on a red background, was used by the GAM during Aceh’s decades-long battle for independence. The flag has recently be readopted as a symbol of Aceh by order of a local bylaw.
